Hudson River Maritime Museum in New York
By admin | August 11, 2008
If you are interested in the history of the Hudson River, maritime history, or you just like interesting museums, you will have a wonderful time exploring the Hudson River Maritime Museum. This is the only maritime museum in the state that focuses solely on the history of the Hudson River. You can tour both outdoors and indoors exhibits at the Hudson River Maritime Museum. There are several small boats in its permanent collection you will see, including a lighthouse tender, a shad boat from more than 100 years ago, and several ice yachts. You can see and photograph the 1898 steam tug Mathilda, which is permanently dry-docked at the Museum. The Museum features an Exhibit Hall where you will see paintings, photos, vessel blueprints, and a variety of other artifacts. The Museum features a special themed exhibit each year that showcases an event or feature of the fascinating history of the Hudson River. If you visit in 2008, you can see an extraordinary exhibit related to the 1609 exploration of the Hudson River by Henry Hudson. There are also visiting ships to see docked at the Rondout Waterfront area of the Museum, and see more interesting exhibits and artifacts here, as well.
