Anyone here done a loan modification?

I’m looking into possibly contacting my bank to see if I can change the terms of my loan, but I’d like to hear from people who have already done it and have had good or bad experiences. If there’s anyone out there who has done a loan modification and cal tell me what the process is like, I sure would love to hear it.
I’m mainly interested in knowing how long the loan mod process takes, what’s involved, how much it costs, and so on. I was thinking of perhaps hiring an attorney to work with me on it, so any thoughts on that as well would be welcome.
