Solid ink is currently available exclusively through Xerox. Xerox bought the technology from another company, improved it, and now markets it as one of the best products on the market. In all honesty, solid ink IS the best product on the market.
Solid ink comes in large blocks instead of cartridges. Since it is not liquid, there is literally no way to spill it. Ink spills can be a pain, especially because they cause sever stains that are hard to get rid of. But with solid ink, the ink goes on the paper, and nowhere else.
If you print pictures or color prints often, you will be impressed by the clarity and brightness of the colors. Solid ink is nearly pure pigment, so it can produce amazing colors. The colors are vibrant, bright, and match the color you see on your printer exactly. Often with lower quality inks you print something out that looks great on your computer, but once it is printed out it looks faded and weak. This will never happen with solid ink. Printed pictures may even look BETTER than they do on your computer.
Solid ink is also healthy for the environment. Unlike ink cartridges, solid ink produces no waste product. Ink cartridges are hard to get rid of and some of them are toxic, so they harm the Earth. You can see ink cartridges littering dump sites everywhere. If you are environmentally conscious, it is important to ditch the old cartridge style ink and switch to solid ink.
