“The” House

By admin | September 13, 2008

In every town there seems to be one house which stands out. It may belong to the mayor, someone wealthy, or be a landmark.

The town I grew up in had such a house and it was owned by an older woman who had inherited it from her father. She lived alone.

Although she was no longer wealthy, she generously opened the house up for tours and even proms, in the ballroom.

I spent a lot of days strolling the long hallways, admiring the plush sofas, big mahogany beds, and lovely fitted wardrobes.

Not only did I learn from the home owner’s warmth and generosity, but I learned a lot about what tasteful decorating looks like.

I’ve used that house as a reference point for all of my decisions and it hasn’t steered me wrong so far.
