Using a Jewish Dictionary
By admin | July 18, 2008
The basic principles of using a Jewish Dictionary are pretty much the same as using any other foreign language dictionary. The only other advice I will give is that you may want to start by looking up explanations of each letter in the Jewish alphabet, which are Aleph, Bet/Vet, Gimel, Dalet, He, Vav, Zayin, Chet, Tet, Yud, Kaph/Khaph, Lamed, Mem, Nun, Samekh, Ayin, Pei/Fei, Tsadi, Quph, Reish, Shin/Sin, and Tav. The Jewish alphabet is sometimes referred to as the aleph-bet, name for the first two letters. There are 22 letters, five of which have a different form when at the end of a word.
