Crappie Fishing During The Spring Run

By admin | August 19, 2009

Most fisherman will agree that crappie fishing during the spring spawn is probably the best time of the year to catch these great tasting fish. But there are a few important details that you need to know before being able to reel in these delectable beauties.

First, the crappie spawn runs earlier than most other fresh water game fish. Crappie like to spawn in water temperatures that are in the low 60 degrees, so pre spawning activity will occur even before the water gets to that temperature. Start looking for the run to occur in the late winter and early spring months.

Then, when you are on the water, try to find a protected cove area without sharp drop offs or other bottom structure changes, and that has good cover. These are the ideal spots for these little guys.
