Setting Up My Own Web Business

I have decided that I am going to set up my own web business. I really want to get it well known quickly though, and I want to get good search engine rankings, so I am looking into website optimization, as well as getting as many one way links as I can. I have been writing as many articles as I can with a link to my website in the about the author sections. I am not sure what else I can do though, so I might have to consult a professional to get some more ideas. I am going to search online first though.
